puppies divide themselves up by color

Would you look at that. Seven Cairn terrier puppies. Two beds. And two coat colors.

I'd like to thank my friend Jill for okaying my use of this sweet, but philosophically puzzling photo. (She's the proud adoptive mom of one of the wheat-colored babies on the right / NO! As she corrects me below, one of the brindles on the left, head draped over rim of the bed) Whyever did they decide to divvy themselves up by fur color? Jill doesn't know, I tried to find out, and I don't know either. Do you?
